The scene of the crime. -
Given that we are pet owners once again, I find I’m looking around at all the things that need to get picked up and tucked away so that they don’t become chew toys.
I found myself seeing old things that I hadn’t looked at in a long time. Case in point, the picture above. This is a bar we have in the house. It’s an old piece of furniture that I got from my parents at one point as a hand-me-down. As you can see, the front of it is a little wrecked.
You see, several years ago, we had cats. Two of them. They were my wife’s before we met and they came as part of the packaged deal. I really grew to love those two furry menaces. They ended up being borderline lap cats as they aged. But in their youth, they were, shall we say, active.
The scratches on the front of this bar are from their rear claws as they tried to gain purchase while jumping up onto the bar. I suppose I could have the bar refinished, but truth be told, I like the way it looks.

This view used to include trees. I have some pictures of the space when it was still trees. I walked by it everyday around lunch when I would go out to stretch my legs. Now it’s a construction site. This will be a Hilton Garden Inn when it’s done. Cause that’s just what the world needs…another hotel. Any time I encounter a situation like this, I automatically think of the Lorax.Today was an overcast day, with a weak sun poking through the clouds. I took the picture using ProCam, with the Ztylus wide angle lens attachment. I imported the picture into Snapseed, where I applied a couple of filters. The first filter was something called Drama, which can really make a sky pop out at you. The second filter was a black and white contrast filter. I like how ominous the result makes the hotel look.

Honestly, this is one of the best things about coming home. The fact that I can kick off my shoes and stuff my feet into slippers. I haven’t had a pair of slippers in years. My feet are big, size 14, and I can’t just go into a store and pick up a pair, so I’ve put off getting a pair for years. Imagine my surprise then when I got not one, but two pairs of slippers for Christmas. Now, the first I do when I come home is peel off the socks and shoes and shove my feet into one of my new pairs of slippers. -

Last fall I took a drawing class at the Worcester Art Museum. It was great, though tiring at times, given that it was three hours on Monday nights. One of the lessons was dedicated to perspective, which might have been my favorite.Since then, I’ve been conscious of seeing perspectives when I take pictures.
I pass this building often when out for a walk at work. It’s just a parking lot, but, like most buildings, it has corners that come together which provides an interesting perspective, especially when you’re standing up close to it. I also liked how the sun was hitting one side of one of those corners as I passed today.

Sometime a quick shot grabs my eye. This is the set of mailboxes for the condo complex where I live. I had just picked up the mail, it was evening, I was on my way home from work, and the light for the mailboxes against the evening darkness struck me. There was just something about it that had a noir-y feel. Maybe I’m reading and writing too much hard-boiled detective fiction these days.
Anyway, I took the photo with the native camera app, imported it into Black Cam, gave it a noir feel, and cropped it a little.
