Just a summer evening, walking the dog.

“All the cattle are standin’ like statues,

All the cattle are standin’ like statues,

They don’t turn their heads as they see me ride by,

But a little brown mav’rick is winkin’ her eye.”

Nothing fancy today, just a fire hydrant.

I had been thinking about using this little version of the Eiffel Tower for my picture of the day today, Bastille Day, but the tragedy in Nice tonight cemented my choice.

France, we grieve with and for you. Your loss is our loss.

I ordered a sub the other night from the pizza place around the corner. It has a little seating area if you want to eat in, or if you’re just waiting for your order. I happened to look up and thought, “What a ridiculously ornate chandelier for a pizza joint.” I tried to take a picture directly below it, just to see what it would look like. I didn’t quite get it squarely, but I like the visual effect anyway.

The top of this tree used to be full of leaves. Then the gypsy moths invaded. Now it’s nearly bare.

    Free Calls.

    Yeah. I’ll bet they are.

We got to catch the last game of the summer season of little league baseball this evening. The boys of some friends of ours were both in games tonight for their respective teams, both games for the championship. It was a nice night for baseball, a cool summer evening with a nice breeze to keep the mosquitos at bay. The kind of summer night you hope for, the kind that reminds you of summer nights past. It had an old-time feel to it, a throwback to a time in America when maybe life was a little simpler than it is now.

And to top it all off, both teams won.
